Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Hon'ble Union Minister, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW), inaugurated the exclusive ‘Millets Experience Centre (MEC)’ at Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi on April 28, 2023.
Shri Manoj Ahuja, Secretary, MoA&FW; Shri Sanjeev Kumar, Addl. Secretary and Financial Advisor, MoA&FW; Shri Pramod Kumar Meherda, Addl. Secretary, MoA&FW; Smt. Shubha Thakur, Joint Secretary (Crops), MoA&FW; Dr. P. K. Singh, Agriculture Commissioner, MoA&FW; and, Shri Rajbir Singh, Managing Director, National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. (NAFED) were present at the inauguration.
Government representatives, secretaries from several ministries, stakeholders from the agricultural sector, Delhi tourism officials, and the media attended the launch event.
In light of the International Year of Millets 2023 (IYM-2023) celebrations under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, NAFED, with the support of MoA&FW, has set up the Millets Experience Centre (MEC) in the heart of the city to popularise and promote the dietary benefits of millets (Shree Anna).
Through the MEC, NAFED aims to raise awareness of and promote the use of millets (Shree Anna) as a staple food throughout the world. This Centre features a live kitchen setup that serves delectable millet-based dishes, and a variety of ready-to-eat products developed by various millet-centric startups. During the inaugural ceremony, a specially designed informational booklet on millets was released to enhance consumer knowledge. Furthermore, the MEC promotes and encourages the inclusion of millets in regular meals through a variety of activities.
Centre for Strategy and Leadership (CSL) is the implementation and operating partner of NAFED for the MEC.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of unique millet-based dishes prepared by an experienced team of chefs and purchase healthy millet-based products at the Millets Experience Centre, Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi.
